PortAbility is an ERASMUS+ project under the ‘Centres of Vocational Excellence’ funding strand and will run for four years from March 2025. It aims to strengthen the economic diversification and transformation of port cities towards a fair, climate-neutral and digital economy by enhancing vocational education and training. It focuses on four Mediterranean cities (Taranto, Volos, Larnaca, Seville) and is complemented by a German knowledge cluster based in Hamburg, with a view to drawing on best practice examples of port transformation. The project has three main objectives: the upskilling of skilled workers, strengthening vocational training capacities to adapt to economic changes, and promoting national dialogue on social innovation in the port economy.
gsub is coordinating the German cluster and establishing an Innovation & Governance Observatory, which is intended to serve as a centre for knowledge transfer, collaboration and raising the profile of the five clusters. gsub is contributing its expertise in the fields of employment, social integration and local development to support the exchange of knowledge and the development of innovative education and labour market strategies for the transformation of port cities.
